Colca Canyon

A view of the valley leading into Colca Canyon...pay careful attention to the terracing (chacras) that can be seen in the bottom of the picture. The same terraces in operation by the Quechua people of this area for hundreds, if not thousands, of years. Unlike some human creations these terraces (in my romanticizing eyes) actually add character to the mountain sides, existing symbiotically as a utilitarian, yet wonderfully aesthetic, addition to the landscape.

A ubiquitous site in the area of Colca Canyon in Southwestern Peru. Incredibly ornate embroidered hats very similar to this are worn by women all over the area, containing thick dark braids, they are accesorize a fashion sensibility that relishes nearly fluorescent color schemes.
